3 Body Problem’s Problem

According to Techradar, the release of Netflix’s 3 Body Problem is not producing the results that were hoped for. Data available on its in-house Top 10 website, shows that the numbers are low, with only 11 million total views, which is far below the recent releases of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Gentlemen.

The show is helmed by the showrunners of the smash HBO hit, Game of Thrones, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, with the addition of True Blood showrunner Alex Woo. Coming off a divisive final season of GOT, Benioff and Weiss have had a shakey comeback into the world of entertainment, with the scrapping of two highly publicized projects, including one in the Star Wars Universe. However, Netflix certainly placed some faith in the pair, now a trio, by green lighting this $160 million dollar project.

Despite the lackluster numbers, the show hasn’t been a critical failure. At least not completely. “3 Body Problem isn’t bad TV. The pacing is pretty strong for an eight-episode series. There’s enough questions and twists to keep viewers entertained,” writes Paste Reporter Leila Jordan, but “No one will be thinking about 3 Body Problem once the autoplay stops” Perhaps, Jordan argues, 3 Body Problem is a holdover of a bygone era in Hollywood, that is now coming to a close. As the industry continues to reel, we can only hope that more high quality entertainment comes down the pike
