'Dune: Part Two' Passes $500 Million Milestone
Unless you were living under a rock the past couple of weeks, you have probably heard all about the much awaited sequel in Director Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” series. It’s one of those rare franchises these days that seems to bring people together from all corners of American life, and indeed, according to the global box office, the world. Gym bros, Sci-Fi nerds, liberal elites, tand Fox News Dads all seem unable to get enough of the action, visuals, and dramatic style brought to life from of the pages of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name.
This much we know, since the film just surpassed an impressive $500 million dollar milestone, already putting it in good company with Iron Man (2008), Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, and Kong: Skull Island. And it’s not done yet.
At a $190 million domestic budget, Villeneuve has another hit under his belt, proving the franchise co-produced and co-financed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, is in the right hands. With a dream cast, led by Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Austin Butler as his villainous foil, and Zendaya in as the romantic lead, few could say the film lacks star power. But what is more, a supporting cast of industry veterans turned out Oscar-worthy performances, including Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, and the unforgettable Javier Bardem, as the wise Fremen leader, Stilgar.
Though a third film in the franchise has not yet been announced, the internet is full of positive speculation. And given the progress so far, it’s not hard to see why.
